Leukaemia Lunches

During the months of July and August I have cooked for 59 lovely people who over that period came to my place for lunch. They didn't all come at the one time , they came over the successive weeks. One week I had 13 to lunch and the tables in the photo are from that lunch. The usual number for lunch was six people. I am very happy even ecstatic to say that I have raised $1,629.00 for research into Leukaemia. Today was very busy with the six ladies arriving , then the photographer from the local paper and the journalist rang and I said " I can't speak at the moment as I am cooking lunch" I have been really blessed by this project, I used my talent and was able to support the community . The menu was a choice of Vegetable or Sweet Potato soup, and the main meal was either Coq Au Vin, Chicken with Camembert and Sour Cherry sauce or Terry Durack's Big fat Greek Meatballs. Now to the sewing bit. I did have nice tablecloths, but you know what it is like you just happen by Spotlight ( material and other good things shop ) and wander around to the curtain material. I made these cloths and place mats for $22.00 is that blessed? So now that Spring is nearly here I will be able to start hand sewing. Did I tell you that I started to blog in July also, it has been a busy time but blessed.

I just popped over to Gudren
s blog and she has a lovely purse giveaway. Isn't it nice to be able to travel all over the world from your study.

Hexagon Quilt number two

Shock horror , well probably not how you do "it". It worked and I finished this second hexagon quilt. The first was much easier to put together than this one . I pinned and re pinned and twisted and turned and finally got "it" to the finished stage. This is different from the first which was random colours, I wanted to have splodges of colour and it looks alright.

Embroidery

10.1 Celsius today, to cold to go outside, so I decided to have as quiet day, that was the intention, but good intentions go astray. A 44 minute phone call didn't help. After lunch our daughter came up from Cobden to pick up copper fly wire for her daughter's woodwork V.C.E. project. I asked Andrea to bring her digital camera along and take photos of my old needlework. In the 1950s every girl had some type of embroidery in their glory box. here are a couple of tablecloths and a doiley that have served us well over the years. I will post more later on. Th weather report does not look good for tomorrow either.

Clare's Post Giveaway

I have just popped over to Clare and she is in the last hours of taking entrants to her post Giveaway.

Winter is nearly over

13 celscius again today. To any blogger who lives in the Northern Hemisphere that is not cold, to us here in the south east corner of Australia 13c is cold. I apologise to my Tasmanian friends as they have it colder than us.I hope you like my Summer photo on that day the temperature was hovering around 40c. I had intended to take my grandchildren to the new St Kilda Pier for lunch, we would sit out on the pier and have lunch. The restaurant had been rebuilt after an arson attack earlier in the year. No can do tooo hot to sit in the sun without any protection, so we found a restaurant with airconditioning in Ackland Street. Ackland Street St Kilda is famous for the many cake shops that have their windows filled with cakes and pastries. It is always a hard choice to pick one cake . The skyline of Melbourne can be seen in the distance of the photo above. Cam took this photo of Madeline Aunty and Nanna.
Back to quilting a friend gave me a bag of material some cut into squares so when September comes I will be able to start on a quilt. I will post photos later. Cheers Margaret

Blessings come in different guises

Today I attended a funeral of a lady that I did hospital visiting with. That was about twenty years ago that we would go to a small Private Hospital and sit and chat with all those who wanted to talk, some we shared our faith with others we prayed with others we spoke about what was happening in their life at the moment. As we were representatives from the Presbyterian and Methodist Church people felt happy to talk with us on any level. We always felt Blessed .
Agfter the funeral I visisted the Palliative Care unit at our local hospital and spent time with a soldier for Christ. John was an ordained Congregational Minister, now in his ninties, he is ready to be called to a higher glory. I then visited an old friend who gave me a bunch of Camellias. After not going on line this morning I tuned in and found that 3 lovely people had left messages on my blog. What a great day, you see little things can give us the words of thank you. Thank You Margaret

Eric Satie Music, How About You, Paris and The Painted Veil

Yesterday I went to see the film How About You starring Vanessa Redgrave and Joss Ackland along with an excellent cast. I saw the film at the Kino in Collins Street Melbourne. I love this shopping complex as it has shops which cater for the higher market, “ if only “ shopping. Bargains can be had though, I went to Maggie T and picked up a real bargain, love Maggie T clothes. While watching How About You I was dumbstruck when I heard the music of Eric Satie again. The last three films I have seen featured the Gymnopédies and Gymnossiennes. The music is wonderfully haunting. The Irish house and river make the film How About You a film that will be remembered.
