Op shop find, Andy's quilt and Christmas hanging

While browsing in the Salvation Army Op Shop in Torquay road Belmont I saw a book in very good condition, new never used , without a dustjacket. I looked through and then put it down the price was the measly sum of $3.00 that was last Thursday .  On Saturday I went back and  bought the book it is a gem and wow what a bargain I came home and googled Books and Collectibles and it sells second hand for around $44.00.
The Gentle Arts by Jennifer Isaacs
200 years of Australian Women's Domestic & Decorative Arts.  Isn't the Children's party table cloth beautiful.
There have been two things that I have hankered to have a go at one was felt work and the other scrappy embroidered work. Felt work I have begun and I am in the process of trying to replicate work like that featured in the book.
The Log Cabin quilt is in the Collection Australian National Gallery , it was made by Sarah Monument between 1910 and 1928 155 x 141 cm.
The Bellingen quilt on the day bed was made from used tea towels, curtains, imitation silk materials with simple patterns of boats , even a hankie it has a simple rug backing and is not filled.  Get this book from your local library it is well worth the read if not only for the colour plates.

Now on to a different quilt made from a jellyroll and machine stitched by Andrea , my work is the binding , it is good to have a mum to do the binding ? Yes?

This hanging did not photograph well, It might be cause I have used dozens of sequins and crystal beads .

Have a good weekend Margaret

Pondering and a sugar hit.

Do you ever whoosh down a quantity of sweets that you were in need of for a sugar hit? Well I just did and now I feel sparky enough to post. The drearies get to you at times and there is nothing like a mouth full of Liquorice allsorts to do the trick.
Last Wednesday I was at a luncheon where Tehree Gordon from Jirralinga Koala Sanctuary spoke, the link will give you an idea of what Tehree spoke about. Their amazing people in our society that we hardly hear about.

Last Thursday night I went to Bridge Church in Bridge Road Richmond to hear Phillip Yancey talk. What an amazing speaker. I have enjoyed reading his books over the years and to see him in person and listen is like visiting an old and trusted friend.

Yesterday I was at another Luncheon and heard Jenny Hayes  Uniting Church Chaplain for Prisons or Criminal Justice speak. Don't be put off by the Uniting Church , a chaplain is there for everyone no matter what affiliation we are all made in the image of God.

So no wonder I need a sugar hit I have been a pondering and this damnable weather doesn't help!!!!!!!.

A little of what I made over the last week or two

Enjoy Life Margaret

Sping and getting jobs finished

Spring is the the time for Spring cleaning --- Getting all those undone jobs tackled
Well in my case it has been cleaning up the U.F.O.s I found in the basket.
A table runner that was string scraps until I put the thinking cap on. See my Bob lamp from Buyster Lighting, he is a beauty for sewing and knitting at night.
A wool felt purse that I was getting around to do something on the front. I recently bought three jumpers at the op shop for $1.00 each , pleased to say I now have pink, red and green wool felt to play with.
Spring also means Footy Finals
Grandson number 3 who plays in U/16 had their semi final match at Modewarre.  Modewarre is known for Lake Modewarre a fishing habitat. They do have a footyground and many other activities for the locals. It is just a short distance from Highton / Belmont.  This rural football ground is set in the countryside with undulating views of cattle grazing. South Barwon lost this game but are still in the Grand Final tomorrow out at Lara which is way over on the other side of Geelong . Lara also has a lake and the You Yangs which dominate the skyline of Geelong.  Tomorrow Father's Day the You Yangs will be a buzz with family celebrating the day. Nothing like a good Aussie BBQ in the bush.

This pattern for a bedsock comes from a very old English Women's Weekly book, must be over 50 years old. The result is a bootie that looks like an elves shoe. Very easy a square knitted on the diagonal .

A sneaky preview of a Christmas hanger that take my time , when the sun is shining through the window.
Hope everyone has a Good Weekend, the Sun is Shining. We went down to Torquay yesterday for a walk and the tide was in the water from the Bass Strait looked so inviting --- But wait Margaret Summer is on it's way. Can you tell I am a Summer person ? Now that's the lot from me for this morning. Margaret
