Birthday

Today we had a very enjoyable , yet too much food, lunch for the twins birthday, Andrea & Elizabeth .

We gave Andrea the Gardener's Journal by Anni Downs Hatched and Patched . I will do the stitchery while Andrea does the hard part.

I made Liz a Pouffe.

And I found a really great way to make a glasses case or camera bag using a steel tape measure as the closure. Seniors moment can't find the site I will have to give it later. http://tatteredgarden.blogspot.com/2010/01/snappy-bag-tutorial.html

Do you remember these Coathanger ?

The plates are as near as Autumn as I could get, Have to take a photo of the Manchurian Pear at the Belmont Post Office this week.
This coat hanger was made about 25 years ago. The work involved by elderly ladies ( about my age now ) was colour full and practical.

Today's hangers in my wardrobe are more like this made by a friend.

To begin you start with a packet of $2.95 hangers

Cover with left over wool.

And seeing they are not seen by anyone other than myself they look like this , they still serve the purpose , however they are not as good looking . I have a friend who embroiders the hangers and they make terrific presents.

My new very bright light from Lighting , I am on my last Port Fairey house from Catherine Baynes at Willow Valley Store

I am thinking of making gloves this winter from a pattern that I made more than fifty years ago, when I was just a wee young thing. It was 31 c today so I think I may put off the knitting for awhile.

Cheerio Margaret "it be St Patrick's Day today.

Sea Change Quilt Show at Barwon Heads

The Quilt show is on Tomorrow Sunday at the Uniting Church Hall in Barwon Heads.

There were quite a few convergence quilts on display, I was a bit apprehensive about taking photos and I asked as I went along.

This is the quilt I voted for number 89.

This Ladies name is Margaret she was hand quilting a quilt and my friend Dorothy is -- with gloves on -- looking at a hanging which had been beaded it was a lovely piece.

Before I went to the quilt show I started to make sauce and when I came home dd had strained and did the second boil and bottled the sauce, I cut the tomatoes up for another batch tomorrow.

Cheers Margaret

Torrential downpour at Flemington

Have you been to Flemington racecourse ? On Saturday 6th March it was a balmy warm day at Flemington. The course was in perfect condition thousands had come to the track to see the Darley Australian Cup. Melbourne Food and Wine festival had a large marquee to the left of the Members stand and in front was the marquee for Myer Fashions. Umbrellas in red and blue lined the grassed area in front of the members and the ambiance was pleasant. DD3 and I had High Tea in the old members stand , a two tiered serving platter of ribbon sandwiches, mini pies, quiches, sausage rolls, scones with lashings of cream and jam , mini pastries, Almond, chocolate and fruit. with coffee or tea, white table cloths and black chair coverings. A lovely way to spend the afternoons races, a short walk out into the stands to watch the races. The Newmarket Handicap was scheduled for race 6 at 2.30 to be run down the (straight six) 1200 metres . When we went out to the stand the sky was very dark in the west, as the horses were running a flash of lightning , and a loud clap of thunder marred their race. The jockeys and horses just got back into the the mounting yard when the hail started, in just ten minutes the Super Saturday meeting came to a halt. These photos were taken with my phone , I was just putting my hand in the air and clicking. Hail stones as big as golf balls, littered the course. The middle of the course was eerie as the hail banked up a fog rose from the warm ground to about eight feet.
The trains stopped running and the car park was awash, I usually get the 5p.m. train back to Geelong , I arrived back in Geelong at 9.30, by bus, however I wouldn't have missed being in the midst of the chaos, it was awesome.

Beads of old

A pattern for a beaded bag sought my attention I thought I might get a bit adventurous in the winter time my gran was a beader so I found some of her milk jug covers and a bag from many years ago

The net used in these covers is not square or round, it has an x in the center of the circle and the covers are double net.

Front and back of bag , it is lined with a very fine black muslin.

Last Friday the 26th February the temperature reached 35c so we headed down to Torquay a twenty minute drive away. We picked Cosy Corner for the shade , however reaching the water is like going on a hike , and then out into the water to find water deep enough to swim in. Around 5.p.m. a group of people gathered and we watched them go through the practice for a wedding , probably at low tide he next morning.

DH walking back, it takes him longer to get under the water I plow straight out , a woman with a mission, he comes in ever so gently. I also wear sandals down to the waters edge.

Looking to the east.
Looking to the north west.
As it was time for the families to come down with children from school this warm water pool filled up with delighted children.
I bought a Liquid sunshine deflector to put in my bag next time I go to Melbourne.
