Stitchery & Old 60's Aprons

I have enjoyed working on the Tortoise Noah's Ark from Lynette Anderson. I didn't think that I could manage all the work in such a small space, my old hands worked it out.

The second piece that I did this week was from Barbara Parrish Redwork info. I modified the pattern to fit a piece of light ming small dot material. Spotlight were having a Sale of Quilt material. Don't you just love that word SALE. I was able to pick up these pieces that will go nicely with the ming to make a small hanging. The second piece is also from Redwork info. This little girl is sitting on a piece scrap, I dont know how this and the earlier pieces will be put together. I have handed them over to Andrea . I am having to much fun stitching to sew.

Aprons from the past. My sister made these Organdie aprons for my box. I did use them once or twice. They both have pockets, the pink apron's pockets were very craftily set .

Bye for now Margaret

Clematis and Rose

Today 16 cold wind and little sunshine. On Saturday it was 30 , the heat knocked us around a bit, it came in too quickly and went just the same way. I went out and took some photos before the next blast. Burgundy Clematis, can't remember the botanical name, this is the second flower, the first came and went on Saturday. The Piilu blue clematis were buds on Saturday so they missed out on the heat and came out yesterday Once a long time ago we had front and back lawns that were putting green perfection. Mown with a cylindrical mower in strips one going a different way to the other. They were admired by all who passed by. Today we and everyone else in the neighbourhood has green weeds in winter and brown weeds in summer. We have toyed with the idea of mulching and turning the lawn area into random plantings of waterless plants. The Chryosma Clematis below is showing the effects of not enough water, the flowers are very small this year. None of our grey water is wasted and there is a tank on every down pipe around the house. I can empty a water tank very quickly , like last week when I wanted to give the roses some food. Double Delight the first bloom this year. Some of the Dahlias that I thought would not recover after last year are starting to poke through. We used to have about 30 Dahlias and they were lifted and stored each year but over the last three years they didn't grow through lack of you know what so we left them in the ground. I will get back to needle work and sewing next week 'till then Regards Margaret

New Ventures

As predicted the rains came, for ten minutes mixed with hail, and the wisteria lost its glory.

"The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever." Isaiah 40:8

It has been a busy week her in Victoria for Seniors, Councils and the Government really put on an effort to get people out and about and involved. I used the free train days to go to Melbourne. On Wednesday a friend and I went to Ikea in Richmond using free transport.

We bought a meter of this material , that will give each of us two large cushions, we are going to copy the cushions that were on display. The material is for the back of the cushion. the front was boldly embroidered with large flowers, in the colours of the stripes, that shouldn't be too hard for me to make a pattern of my own design, full of confidence, that's me.

I can start new projects as I have finished my second wrap. Wraps with Love , are knitted rugs, ten inch squares 4 X 7 = 28 squares, for disadvantaged people. You can find more about the concept at Wraps with Love.

Years and years ago I gave my mother a knitting bag, she passed away over twenty years ago and this bag has been sitting in the hall cupboard, I freshened it up,and now it is useful again.

I finished this scarf I didn't find it as easy as it states, took a lot of concentration. I have been having a wonderful time stitching with free patters from free redworkby Barbara Parrish, but I didn't use red. I have been given some material from a curtain shop and there is a lovely lot of blue and white fabric amongst the stash.

With the new term begun we started our last study book in K.Y.B. on Tuesday. Our group meet at my house each Tuesday morning, there are eight ladies from different denominations, we have a wonderful time. The last study for the year is Psalms 90 to 106, so if you know Psalm 90 you will know that we were all on fire last Tuesday. To finish the week off I am going to The Astor Theater in Windsor ( an old 1940s style movie theater) to hear the Cairo Club Orchestra and watch Casablanca in black and white.
